Tire Tips
With your tires in the best condition, you’ll enjoy longer and safer
travelling. Here’s how to spot an old or worn tire: Spotting
tread wear. If you’re not sure how your tires are doing, please
have your local Ford or Lincoln Dealer and/or your Fast Lane experts take
a look.
Tire pressure
The most important thing you can do to extend the life of your tires is
keep them properly inflated. Under and/or over inflated tires are unsafe
and can decrease tire life.
Look in your Owner's Manual for the location of your vehicle's Certification/Tire
label. The label shows the correct inflation pressure for your tires when
they're cold (when your vehicle has been sitting for three hours or driven
less than one mile).
Check your tire pressure every time you fuel, using a good quality pocket-type
gauge. Remember, tires can look fine but be underinflated, so don't settle
for a visual inspection.
Balance and alignment
For uniform wear and maximum
thread life, make sure to rotate your tires according to your Ford's genuine
Scheduled Maintenance Service Guide. Keeping tires balanced (a must when
they are mounted for the first time or remounted after a repair) and properly
aligned is essential for maximum thread life.
If you notice any tire vibration or changes in steering response, such
as pulling to one side, bring your vehicle in for a proper inspection.
It's also a good idea to clean your tires periodically with a stiff brush
and a specifically formulated tire cleanser.
Replacing your tires
The tires that came with your vehicle were designed for the characteristics
of the vehicle. When it's time to replace them, be sure to replace them
with the same brand, size and type as factory equipped. You can find the
size and grade in your owner's manual.
